Reminder: lock in your cruise, tee, and trolley by July 25

Kingston

August 20 - August 23

Hey, it's jD here. A quick but important nudge on The Gathering, our Forever Hip weekend in Kingston. This is the same plan I sent during the week, however, this one is a bit more urgent.

Time is slipping away and I need numbers to set up the boat cruise or pick an alternate event. Sorry for being a pain but event planning on this scale is more work than I could have ever thought. Not that I am complaining.

Anyway here gathered in one place so nothing slips is the agenda, everything that costs money, how to pay, and the two dates to circle.

If you have already sorted your bits, thank you, and read on to double-check.

The weekend at a glance

Thursday, Aug 20: opening mixer on the water, our Kingston cruise, then over to the Square for the evening's programmed events.

Friday, Aug 21: community listening session for the new live album, "Live July 22 to August 20, 2016".

Saturday, Aug 22: a free day. Dinner is on your own this year, our group is too big and tastes too varied for one room. Optional red trolley city tour if you want it.

Sunday, Aug 23: farewell brunch at Morrison's Diner, across from Springer Market Square.

1. The Thursday cruise, our opening mixer

Our kickoff for the whole weekend, on the water in Kingston, with hors d'oeuvres and one prepaid drink per person included. Time is now confirmed: 4:30 to 6:30pm. Cost is $86 per person, priced against a group of 75, and we are close to that number already. Pay through Jamie's PayPal, and put your name and number of seats in the note. Flag any allergies when you confirm and I will do my best to accommodate them

1. Pay for the cruise: paypal.me/GarryDew425 with a note indicating how many seats you will need.

2. Your weekend tee

$32.50 CAD each, paid the same way through Jamie's PayPal, paypal.me/GarryDew425 with your name and sizes in the note. Pay this way and there is no shipping charge, you just pick up your tee once you are in Kingston.

Not able to make it to Kingston? Order your tee here so it can ship to you: https://giftshop.tthpods.com

3. The red trolley city tour

A one hour tour on the iconic red trolley, $30 per person, capped at 25 people. First come, first served, so once the 25 seats are gone, they are gone. Pay through Jamie's PayPal paypal.me/GarryDew425 with your name and "trolley" in the note.

4. Hotel booking

Two room blocks are held. Book directly and pay the hotel, not me.

Quality Inn and Conference Centre, Kingston: $169/night plus tax, plus $6/night parking.

About an hour's walk from downtown, or roughly a $10 - $15 Uber or cab ride.

Book: https://www.choicehotels.com/reservations/groups/UN22Y0

Holiday Inn, Kingston Waterfront: $259/night plus tax, onsite parking $25/night. Under 5 minute walk to Springer Market Square, right in the middle of everything.

Book: ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/find-hotels/select-roomrate

Parking gets tight downtown that weekend, and if you plan to have a drink or two, Uber or cab is the easier call either way.

The two dates to circle

By July 25: confirm and pay for your cruise seat, order your tee (or through the gift shop if you are not coming to Kingston), and grab a trolley spot if you want one.

By July 31: book your hotel room to hold the negotiated rate. Unbooked rooms release back to the hotel after this.

One short form locks it all in your cruise seat, your tee order and sizes, a trolley spot if you want one, and whether you are joining the listening session and Sunday brunch.

In order to keep track of everything this is the FINAL google form I will ask you to fill out. It serves as tally for the weekend and I will for sure need it. https://forms.gle/2j4cFaEFpioTNpq27

Please complete the form if you were a maybe and you are now a firm yes or no. If you got on this list by accident, I apologize in advance.

See you in Kingston!

Reply right here with any questions, I read every one.

See you in Kingston,

jD

About jD Hey, it's jD. I'm a Toronto-based podcaster, creative producer, and lifelong Tragically Hip superfan who's been building The Tragically Hip Podcast Series since 2018. What started as a track-by-track deep dive into the band's catalogue has grown into a six-show network that's raised over $35,000 for the Downie Wenjack Fund, The Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research, and CAMH. I'm not a journalist, I'm not a critic — I'm a fan who loves this band as much as you do, and everything I make comes from that place. About Yer Letter Yer Letter is the monthly newsletter for the TTH Pods community — written for fans, by a fan. It's where I share what's happening across the network, what's coming up, and the kind of Hip conversation that doesn't fit anywhere else. No fluff, no filler — just the stuff worth reading. If you've found your way here, you already know why the Hip matters. This is just another place we get to talk about it.

Come To The Bathouse Thursday, august 20, 2026 Hey, it's jD here. Nine days until August 20th. Ten years to the day. Two things, and I'll keep both short. THE NEWS The final episode of Yer Hipstories: Reflections From The Final Tour is being filmed inside The Bathouse - the studio where The Hip made their records - on August 20th. It airs that same night at 8pm ET. I still can't quite say that out loud. THE CONTEST Three of you are coming into that room with me. Three chairs, won, not...

Where were you? Saturday, august 20, 2016 Hey, it's jD here. August 20th, 2016. The Kingston finale. Ten years on and I still can't say the date out loud without my voice doing something weird. Here's what I want from you. Where were you that night, and who were you with? That's it. That's the whole question. A living room, a tailgate, a bar full of strangers, Market Square in the rain, a hotel room in another country with a bad stream and worse wifi. Wherever you were. Whoever was beside...

Yer Letter august 1, 2026 Hey, it's jD here, and I'm writing this ten days after the Victoria stream, which is to say ten years and ten days after the Man Machine Poem tour opened at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre and the countdown started for all of us. Quick word before anything else. Last month's letter was a heavy one, and you answered it in a way I did not expect and will not forget. More on that near the bottom. For now, just this: thank you. I'm doing better. Now let's talk about...
